Wordpress Intro

When it comes to blogging, Wordpress is the most common and popular platform out there. It’s hard to explain exactly what Wordpress is, but I’ll try anyway.

Wordpress is a software package that is offered free by most web host providers and provides the necessary capabilities for you to blog. There are hundreds of web sites out there for you to find free Wordpress Templates that you can “import” and use. These templates define the “look and feel” of you site. The best part is that you can easily change your template by using the Wordpress administrative tool.

Another great feature of Wordpress is the concept of “plug-ins”. A plug-in is a piece of code/software that can be uploaded to you Wordpress site and adds additional capabilities. There are tons of different plug-ins available. Some are more useful than others and some are of questionable quality, so be careful. In general though they are quite good and can really help make your web site more than just a basic blog site.

One of the other features of Wordpress that is quite valuable is the fact that you can not only create blog posts but also create new pages. That’s important because sites with many, content-rich pages are more likely to rank well in search results.
