A Little History

Allow me to provide a little history and context.

Over the past two years I’ve registered a variety of domain names and slowly started to figure out ways to monetize them. I must tell you that it has been quite a learning experience. There are thousands of people out there trying to get rich quick on the Internet, and there are certainly some success stories out there.

I started down the path of trying to hit it big quick. That meant that some “black hat” techniques were not out of the question. I found some products and templates that would get a site up and running quickly with generated content. The goal of which was to rank high in the search engines to get good traffic that would then click on my Google Adsense links and I’d make money. Well, I didn’t have much luck so I decided to teach myself PHP programming and created my own template. I got most of my sites up and running and started to see some decent traffic and revenue. Just when it seemed like I had the process working and could consider ramping up by adding more domains, the bottom fell out and the traffic stopped. Virtually all of my sites fell out of the Google index. I’m still not sure why, but I do know that Google is always looking for ways to improve their index by filtering out low-value sites (which I must admit my sites fell into that category).

So, after a few month of virtually no revenue I decided to consider other options. One thing that I’d heard and read a bit about over that past year was how people were making money from blogging. My level of interest at the time was to, once again, try the quick approach and bought some products that would generate blogs and posts. I basically got no one from that and so I essentially gave up on the blog idea. But, now that I have revisited the idea I discovered that my perception and understanding of a blog was SOOOOO limited.

You would be surprised at the number of “normal” sites are actually blog sites powered by WordPress (which is one of the most common blogging platforms). Once I realized that, I began to understand how I could use a blog to create a powerful web site.

So, that is where I am today. I am slowly developing some of my sites using WordPress. The jury is still out on whether I can get back to making money, but I feel pretty confident that if I do things right I’ll make some cash.

The purpose of this site is to provide you details of what I’ve learned, what I’ve tried, and ideas for making some powerful and interesting sites. In the end, Content is King on the Internet. If your site contains good content that is relevant and interesting to people, you’ll get the traffic and have success.
